Propylene glycol — colourless vyazkayazhidkost with slight characteristic smell, sweetish taste, obladayushchayagigroskopichesky properties.
Use of propylene glycol
Antifreezes (heat carriers, coolants)
The low - freezing heat carriers on the basis of aqueous solution of propylene glycol widely are used in different industries as heat carriers (antifreezes), including in systems of heating, ventilation, conditioning of houses and public buildings, in cooling systems of food productions, and also in other heat - exchanging equipment in the range of temperatures from −40 by °C to + 108 °C.
Corrosion activity of propylene glycol is lower, than at the majority of the known aqueous solutions of salts and alcohols that allows to impose low requirements to rating of steel for the equipment and to reduce the cost of the used equipment. [the source is not specified 980 days]
Dependence of temperature of freezing of heat carriers on concentration of propylene glycol in them:

In house conditions it is possible to determine temperature of freezing of t of freezing of °C of the operated heat carrier by density. Dependence of density on freezing temperature for aqueous solutions of propylene glycol is given in table 2.

[to govern] the Food industry
In the food industry propylene glycol is registered as food additive of E1520 as moisture - holding, softening and deflocculant.
Propylene glycol is used also in production of liquids for gas station of electronic cigarettes.
