- In detail
Bosc pears have a uniquely brown or russetted skin. They turn slightly yellow when ripe yet remain firm to the touch and have a long curved stem and distinctive elongated neck. Great for baking, Boscs are crunchier than other pears but have a rich, melting flesh with a buttery flavour.
Storage and Handling:
Temperature: 32 °F / 0 °C; to ripen, 60 to 70 °F / 15.6 to 21.1 °C
Relative Humidity: 90-95
Merchandising Tip:
Pears should be stacked one or two layers deep to help protect their soft skin. Since many pears ripen to different colours, stickers saying 'ready-to-eat' help the consumer select the perfect fruit. Pear seasons overlap so it's beneficial to offer many varieties to the consumer and to inform them of the characteristics of each variety.
