Description
The Golden Delicious originated from West Virginia by way of a chance seedling. The parentage is unclear, but guesses have been made towards a Golden Reinette or a Grimes Golden as relatives.
The Golden Delicious is a medium to large size apple with a broad and elongated, conical shape. As the name suggests, this golden honey is a firm yellow colour, sometimes accompanied with a pink splash (if cool nights forerun harvesting). The flesh is white and crisp, with lovely mellow flavours that linger on your palette! The best uses for a Golden Delicious are; fresh eating, salads, pies, sauces, and definitely baked. The slices keep their shape in pies!
Availability for the Golden is from Early September straight on through to May.
