CH3COONa * 3H2O sodium acetate
Sodium acetate is used in textile production for neutralization of the fulfilled sulphuric acid in drain waters and as photoresist when using aniline dyes. Also it is used at tanning by chrome salts (for protravlivaniye), and slows down process of curing of chloroprene by production of synthetic rubbers.
Sodium acetate is known as food additive of E262 and is applied as preservative .
In solution sodium acetate (being salt of weak acid) and acetic acid can be applied as the buffer, to preservation of rather constant pH . It is especially useful in biochemistry in pH - dependent reactions.
Sodium acetate is also used in life as compound chemical hot - water bottles or chemical heaters, applied as mix component of "hot ice", at crystallization of sodium acetate heat is allocated - it is exothermic process. At the sodium acetate trihydrate heating (having fusion point in 58 °C) to 100 °C (usually capacity with it is put in boiling water) it is dissolved in own crystal water and passes into aqueous solution of sodium acetate. When cooling this solution the oversaturated sodium acetate solution in water is formed. This solution perfectly overcools to room temperature without formation of solid phase, then pressing metal disk in capacity forms crystallization center which, growing, forces the oversaturated solution to pass into solid phase of trihydrate of sodium acetate. This process is followed by considerable allocation of heat at this process about 264 — 289 kJ/kg are allocated.
